Sacraments
We are a Church in valid Apostolic Succession from the
Apostles and practice the seven Sacraments handed down to us through their
tradition, that is to say: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, The Eucharist
(Mass), Confession, Anointing of the Sick (Unction) and Holy Matrimony. We may
vary the way in which these Sacraments are performed, for example through the
use of different liturgies, providing always that the validity of the
Sacrament in matter, form and intent is preserved. We understand the Sacraments
to be outward signs of an inward spiritual grace.
Baptism/Christening
If you would like be Baptised/Christened
into The Church of St Mary & St John please contact us. The sacrament of Baptism
is free and no one will ever be prevented from receiving Baptism because of
costs. However because we receive no stipend and provide a mobile ministry if
people can make a contribution it would be gratefully received. Please contact
us regarding this.
The Church of St Mary & St John rejects
the idea of original sin. So, for us, baptism represents a symbolic birth into
the Celtic Gnostic community. The Candidate heeds the call of the Divine, and
declares, "Do Thy Divine WILL, So It Shall Be All." The Candidate enters the
portals of the Church, where he or she is welcomed into the community of
seekers, leaving the profane world and its materialistic obsessions behind.
Confirmation
Please contact us to arrange your
Confirmation into The Church of St Mary & St John. The sacrament of Confirmation
is free and no one will ever be prevented from receiving Confirmation because of
costs. However because we receive no stipend and provide a mobile ministry if
people can make a contribution it would be gratefully received. Please contact
us regarding this.
The ceremony of confirmation represents the first conscious
manifestation of the True Will. The recitation of the Creed by the Confirmand
represents a statement that active participation in the Church and belief in its
tenets is in conformity with the Confirmand's own True Will. The Church accepts
the Confirmand as a Gnostic Theolalite, one of its own, a rightful claimant to
the heirship and communion.
Holy Orders
Please fill out the ordination form to
apply to be taken through Holy orders with The Church of St Mary & St John.
The Eucharist (Mass)
We perform a Celtic Gnostic Mass in our Temple in Lancashire,
and you are welcome to join us with prior arrangement. We will also travel to
your home or hospital to perform Mass. For mobile ministry a contribution
towards travel cost would be appreciated.
Confession
More than being a confession, we see this as a way to help and
council those going through problems, and we are here to help when needed.
Members of the Church may contact us regarding this matter.
Anointing of the Sick (Unction)
We are available to anoint the sick when this is required.
Holy Matrimony
We perform Celtic Gnostic wedding ceremonies between members
of the same or the opposite sex provided that such ceremonies are in full
conformity with secular law in the jurisdiction concerned. For suggested donation
for our ministry which depends on the distances involved, please contact us.
